Identification Counseling Talent (I C Talent), Hong Kong, 2020

In cooperation with our estimated partner, Open University Hong Kong (LiPACE), Radboud University intends to be offering the I C Talent programme in Hong Kong, from 2020 onwards. I C Talent will be based on the RITHA Practitioner Certificate programme, having a specific focus on Identification of Giftedness and the Counseling of the most Talented.

I C Talent will, like RITHA Practitioner, be a blended training programme, with corresponding seminars in Hong Kong.

Diploma

The I C Talent Programme in Hong Kong is intended to lead to:
RITHA Practitioner Certificate in Identification and Counselling Talent

Aims

I C Talent will cover important themes in Gifted Education. Talent development needs of children can be met with different pedagogies and programmes. Students will be guided while developing a broad knowledge-based foundation in gifted education. They will be reflecting on their own views and learn to use different approaches of gifted education. A variety of systematic and evidence-based knowledge and skills will be acquired for talent identification, and for gaining practical experience in specific educational or community contexts.

Programme Structure

The programme has a total of 620 notional learning hours, mainly consisting of 48 face-to-face seminar teaching hours, 109 online contact hours and 200 practice hours. There is also a remaining 263 self-study and assessment hours for assignments and examination.

Entry requirements

Applicants are required to meet at least one of the following requirements:

  • A recognized degree or equivalent professional qualification (at QF Level 5);
  • Diploma or Higher Diploma at QF Level 4 of Psychology, Child Psychology, Education or other relevant disciplines from a recognized tertiary education institute;
  • Mature applicants aged 21 or above with a minimum of 2 years’ relevant working experience may also be considered to be eligible

Applicants might be asked to attend an admission interview (skype meeting).

Learning Outcomes

  • Upon completion of the programme, participants should be able to:
  • Identify (cognitive) talent when it is less obvious;
  • Gather relevant information to identify and serve the needs of potentially gifted children and share their findings with colleagues;
  • Develop self-awareness of own frame of reference, and how this may influence the identification process;
  • Act and reflect on own counselling, based on scientific knowledge, feedback and improve those actions accordingly (continuous learning process);
  • Reflect and develop critical self-awareness and take responsibility in counselling with appropriate risk in a professional code of conduct;
  • Evaluate and discuss personal and professional ethics in the counselling management of children learning and gifted children assessment;
  • Practice on becoming a RITHA practitioner with continuous critical self-reflection and making progressive adaptations; and
  • Acquire more advanced counselling practice experiences through cases, and become aware that the real practice may be different from the literature.
